The Image
“Our units definitely make us stand out in the market,” said Michael Scheetz, a driver for one of Auburn’s 40 bobtails.
Likewise, driver Scott Barrett says, “We have the nicest looking trucks in the region, particularly due to our stainless steel decking. Other trucks have painted steel decking,” he said, adding that he often hears that customers choose CHS over its competitor because of the high quality appearance of their delivery vehicles.
The Quality
“Other units I’ve seen look like they are pieced together, and that is because they literally are,” said Auburn fleet manager Mark Nevill. “Unlike most other manufacturers, Westmor builds its own vessels, and that makes a huge difference. So it is the quality of the vessel itself and the quality of the welding and fabrication that makes for such a great appearance.”
“Also, the stainless steel decking is especially important in a coastal climate for long-term wear life, and their painting process is excellent,” he said. “Our logos are placed on the vessels, and when the unit arrives, it is ready to go to work.”
The Relationship
“We’ve worked with Westmor for more than 20 years and have been buying their units for use on the west coast ever since we started building our business out here,” said Nevill. “Westmor listens to the drivers and caters to their needs. They [drivers] want a dependable, nice-looking vehicle, and one that is comfortable to operate with easy controls and more visibility. These bobtail units instill ‘driver pride’ while conveying an image of quality to customers,” he added.
The Options
Our goal is to outfit you with a Bobtail that fits. The size and strength of our company allows us the time and opportunity to customize each unit we manufacture. In Auburn, CHS, Inc. added these popular features to their specs:
- 3” Rego flowmatic ISV liquid discharge valve, which will remain open only when the pump is running
- A LED light package with extra tail, brake and turn signal lighting, as well as additional work lights mounted on the gauge guard
- 3” sprayfill, to load faster while incurring less friction during the process
- Electronic metering that communicates with in-cab computers to monitor deliveries and issue accurate count numbers
- A four-function remote which gives a digital readout of the number of gallons pumped
- Electric assist reel-out feature that prevents the driver from having to pull against the pressure of the hose
- Guide Master option that assists in efficiently winding the hose
